Earlier this month, the US’ Pentagon announced the leaked documents revealed by a 21-year-old National Guard airman, Jack Teixeira. Right after, the Justice Department launched the criminal investigation over this case. However, it has been all over the media platform reporting the dozens of classified US intelligence documents, in which most marked top secret were already leaked to the public.
Question 1: First of all, before dig deep inside to those leaked documents, could you explain, How did the Pentagon leak events unfold?
Dr. Neth Thida Chanthima: So as you have mentioned, a 21-year-old, Jack Teixeira, a member of Massachusetts National Guard began posting high secret government information a month agoon discord messaging service. Some reports even believe that Teixeira began posting as far back as February 2022 less than 28 hours after Russia invaded Ukraine. However, US officials only became aware of the leaked last week. Teixeira since then have been detected by the FBI and have been charged unauthorize retention and transmittion of national defense information as well as unauthorize removal of classify information and defense material. With this level of security reached, the Pentagon has begun an inter agency effort in term of overview to access the leaked impact on national security.

Question 3: Those documents identified as the top-secret information that the US obtained. On this ground, what do you think it means to the US’ security and the world’s?
Dr. Neth Thida Chanthima: Well, the spoke person for the Pentagon caution the public on the validity of these information in the investigation. Nevertheless, it still opens up debate on how their ability and weaknesses in the process that access in such a sensitive intelligence. Dr. Neth Thida Chanthima: As for the reaction from the US’ allies when it comes to South Korea, President Yon Suk Yeol in an exclusive interview with MBC that “I believe that this matter is no reason to shake the support US-South Korea allies because it is based on shape the value like freedom”. Dr. Neth Thida Chanthima: well, the US may present the United front with Ukraine and that they have a positive outlook on this war thrugh the highly classify mixed intelligence document, it suggests otherwise. It offers rather pessimistic the US view point about substated the war, highlighting the weaknesses the Ukraine weapon, defense , and predicting. Furthermore, the document also warn that Ukraine medium range air defenses to protect front-line troops will be completed by May 2023. As suggest that Russia could soon have area priority and then Ukraine could lose the ability to a mass forces in a couple of month. Some US official also claim that some of the document may have been authored or use as part of a missed information in campaign.
