Cultural Corridors and Tourism Development in Banteay Longvek

ISSUE 2021
No 09
Release 11 August 2021
By NGUONPHAN Pheakdey, PhD, HEM Thel, SOK Serey, PhD

Banteay Longvek is located on a unique triangle geography between the Tonle Sap and the Mekong River, which are the major waterways and the backbone supporting Cambodia’s economy, trade, local livelihoods, agriculture, and fisheries for hundreds of years. Therefore, Longvek’s potentials can be significantly enhanced if the important areas along the two rivers are connected as historical, cultural, and religious tourist destinations. In the post-COVID-19 pandemic, the cultural corridors of Banteay Longvek have potentials for tourism development, linking together Chaktomuk of Phnom Penh, Oudong of Kandal, Banteay Longvek of Kampong Chhnang, and Basan of Kandal province.
