H.E. Tean Samnang is a diplomat by profession. On the academic front, he earns bachelor’s degrees in law and English from Norton University. Then, in 2004, he received a master’s degree in political science from the Royal Academy of Cambodia. He is a doctoral candidate in international law at China’s Southwest University.
Career-wise, he previously worked for Research Institutes for over a decade. He joined the Information Research and Analysis Group (IRAG), a think tank attached to the Cabinet of the Prime Minister, in March 2008. As a Senior Researcher for IRAG, he participated in various research activities and has authored numerous research and analysis articles for the IRAG bulletin. Regarding his diplomatic career, he served as an adviser for the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations and as Consul General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Shanghai, China. He assumed the presidency of the National Institute of Diplomacy and International Relations (NIDIR) in 2020. At NIDIR, H.E. Tean Samnang formulated government reform policy, trained Cambodian diplomats, and sharpened their skills. He has shared and promoted Cambodia’s foreign policy at numerous international and national forums. Simultaneously, he has published articles to enhance the global understanding of Cambodia. In late December 2022, H.E. Tean Samnang was tasked to lead Information Research and Analysis Group (IRAG) as Director General due to his consistent efforts.
